Shadow & Beam
EP 2024.07.10

Light and shadow are not opposites. They coexist—intertwined in motion, blurring into each other. Serine’s debut EP Shadow & Beam doesn't dramatize this duality. Instead, it quietly follows the emotional undercurrents that drift between the two. Rather than building toward a loud climax, the album carries tension through restraint. It’s not a record that tries to say too much, but one that knows how to leave a trace.
The six-track journey begins with Whisper, where emotion emerges like a breath in silence. In Still Blue, sadness settles with weight, quiet and steady. Title track Shadow stands at the heart of the album—where Serine confronts the deeper parts of herself. Her voice stretches and folds with power and intimacy. Love Isn’t Soft Anymore reflects on a love that has lost its tenderness, while Start a war in my room captures the chaos of internal conflict. The final track Trace lingers like a shadow, unspoken but present, offering no resolution—only a feeling.
More than just a collection of songs, Shadow & Beam is an emotional architecture. Every track has been shaped with intention: from tone and texture to visual language. Serine took part in every aspect—from vocals and songwriting to styling, art direction, and visual composition—building her artistic identity in full form.
Her music may often sound quiet, but it’s never hollow. The silence is full of weight. Mood arrives before meaning, and feeling stretches beyond words. Shadow & Beam doesn’t demand to be understood. Instead, it stays with you—in the places that feel most like your own.
