Unspoken
SINGLE 2023.11.24

"Unspoken" is the first story she has told in her own words since her time with the girl group Cherrish. Feelings that existed without words, sensations that resonate without sound, and the beginning of being 'me' instead of being in someone else's mold: this album depicts the origin of those feelings in the quietest and clearest way. After the breakup of the team, Serene took time to redesign both the music and the emotions, the visuals and the moods. During that time, unorganized emotions were unspoken, but they were definitely there. "Unspoken" is the moment when those emotions begin to take shape, the spark of emotions delivered in Serene's own way, through whispers and silence, light and shimmer. She doesn't raise her voice. Instead, she wraps them in light, composing them in the margins. "Unspoken" speaks in that way, the quietest first sentence.
Unspoken (Title)
"I didn't say it. You still heard it."
The album's title track, and the most emblematic of Serene's emotional origins as an artist. The bass is low and heavy, and her vocals are held back, almost like a whisper, before gradually rising to the edge of emotion. She doesn't speak, but it's in the moments of silence that she is heard most powerfully. The mood that runs through the song is one of silent resonance, which eventually reaches the listener's heart. The glowing glitch effects and glossy synths combine to create a visual aural experience.
Gloss Fever
"When silence burns, I shimmer instead."
A track that captures the moment when pent-up emotions turn into fever. It starts with a lyrical piano riff, but gradually expands into a glossy, pop texture. Serine's vocals are restrained, but here they become more active and seductive. The sound shimmers like metal, and the emotion spreads like heat. The drop at the end of the song introduces a whole new synth structure, creating a kind of emotional explosion.
Telepathy is Real
"No signal. Still, I feel you."
The final track on the album, and the most dreamy and cinematic of the emotional resolutions, the song is based on the idea that emotions are transmitted even when communication is cut off. The vocals are blurred in reverb and reverberation, creating a sound that seems to echo from the edge of space. The sound has a distorted quality, as if it were echoing underwater, and Serine's voice oscillates between reality and fantasy. The long reverb that lingers after the song ends acts as an afterimage of a final emotion that is conveyed without words.
